Pavel Tschenokoff's Russian Orthodox-style choral anthem "Salvation is Created" has been masterfully transcribed, reduced, and arranged by Seth T. Vatt into this performing edition for the Momus Trombone Quartet. Digital download includes score plus four trombone parts.

The key of B minor requires the bass trombone to have a solid double trigger range, while the first trombone's melodic lines soar to an A above the staff. The rich sonority and dynamic range promote unity and blend within the ensemble while still leaving room for tonal color and individual musicianship. In addition, the English translation of the original text is reflected in the editorial phrase and dynamic markings.

Salvation is created,

In midst of the earth,

O Most High.

Alleluia, Amen.

PAVEL TSCHESNOKOFF (also: Chesnokov) (1877-1944) was a product of the Moscow Synodal School and the Moscow Conservatory where he studied and later taught composition, conducting and choral singing. His output of some 500 works was largely sacred, composing for the Russian Orthodox Church until communism took hold in 1917. Fearing retribution as laws regulating musical output were passed, it was at this time that he stopped composing sacred works altogether.

"Salvation is Created" was written in 1912, and while Tschesnokoff himself never actually heard the work performed, after his death it became recognized as the official anthem for the church when communism lost its grip. It’s original setting can be found in a cycle of ten Communion Hymns from Opus 25, and based on the primary codex for Russian Orthodox liturgical settings called the Obihod notnago peniya.
